Auditions for Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, with a new translation by Sarah Meyers are Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6, with call-backs Tuesday, October 9th.  See below for more details:

We are thrilled to present this new translation set in modern day NYC.  This will be an immersive production that will have a degree of audience interaction.  We are excited to have singers who are strong actors, who are willing to help shape this piece and these characters for this new interpretation.  We highly encourage persons of color, and all body types, ages, genders and gender identities to audition.

  • WHEN & WHERE:
Auditions for Die Fledermaus will take place Friday October 5th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday October 6th, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Old West Church in Beacon Hill (131 Cambridge Street, Boston, MA 02114).  Call-backs will take place Tuesday, October 9th from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM also at Old West Church in Beacon Hill.

  • AUDIITON FEE:
There is a $10 fee to audition (this covers our provided pianist and space rental), please bring cash OR check.
  • TO RESERVE AUDITION:
To schedule an audition, please send a headshot and resume to auditionsmassopera@gmail.com and indicate which date you would like to audition.  You may request a specific time frame but we cannot guarantee we can accommodate the request. Those interested in chorus only do not need to send a resume.
  • WHAT YOU WILL NEED AT AUDITION:

Please bring an English aria to your audition, in addition to a second piece (which can be in any language). For consideration for a specific role, please prepare any aria (at least half) or a long excerpt (approximately 2 minutes) for that character, using the Schirmer English Translation Edition. If you are interested in multiple characters, please prepare excerpts for each.  For call-backs, we will ask you to prepare a specific excerpt, which we will send you in your confirmation email.  The excerpts are to be sung on-book (though you are welcome to memorize it if you like!) Please bring a hard copy of your resume to the audition.

  • WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR CALL BACKS:
We will provide you with sides for the scenes and additional excerpts via google docs to prepare in advance.  Come prepared to move and make choices!
